What is the Ottawa Transit Riders group?

We are an initiative of the Healthy Transportation Coalition, Free Transit Ottawa, and a number of other local Ottawa partners. We're made up of citizens who use transit regularly and who would like to see more efficient, reliable, accessible, and affordable transit service in Canada's national capital region.

We are not affiliated with any political party and completely volunteer and grass-roots driven.

How is the Ottawa Transit Riders group organized?

The Ottawa Transit Riders group is a volunteer-run initiative. A planning workshop was held on January 26, 2019 and about 25 people volunteered to be part of an initial steering committee to debate, discuss and decide on a vision/mandate and bylaws. Annual elections will be held starting in 2020.

How do I get involved?

We are always looking for people interested in working with us on citywide issues or acting as representatives for neighbourhoods around the city; please email us!

Join us on Saturday, April 27th at Jean Pigott Place (City Hall) to give us your ideas, suggestions, and opinions on how to make transit better.

What is next?

So ... people are talking about transit. What is the Ottawa Transit Riders group going to do next?

Next step is to formalize this group so we can approach OC Transpo and City Hall with the weight of our members behind us. We are having a founding meeting / launch party on Saturday, April 27th 2:30-5:30PM at Jean Pigott Place (City Hall). Click on the link for upcoming events to RSVP. If you've ever wanted to build an organization, here's your chance. You can run for a seat on the Board of Directors, vote for members, and discuss strategies, campaigns, and ideas for making transit better in Ottawa.
